At the heart of Sowa Rigpa lies the understanding that true health is a state of natural harmony. This harmony is shaped by the balance of mind and the five elements — earth, water, fire, wind, and space. These in total are called the ‘six elements’ and are the very basis of human body and mind.

When the ‘six elements’ are balanced, we experience vitality, clarity, and emotional stability; when they become disturbed, the imbalance manifests physical or mental illness. In this view, symptoms are not enemies to fight, but signals of disharmony calling us back to equilibrium.

Mind training and healthy lifestyle are therefore cornerstones of good health.

Buddhist philosophy

Deeply influenced by Buddhist philosophy, Tibetan Medicine sees every person as aunion of physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions. The mind plays a central role: emotions, thoughts, and inner attitudes shape the flow of the elemental energies within us. Through awareness, compassion, and ethical living, one can transform suffering into understanding and reconnect with the body’sinnate wisdom.

Sowa Rigpa reminds us that health is not the absence of illness, but the presence of harmony — between the mind and the five elements, others and our environment. They are mutal inderdependent. It is a medicine that heals not only through herbs and therapies, but through the awakening of consciousness and the return to balance.
